Taoyuan Demonstrates International Leadership – Connect with Countries Around the World Through the Sustainable City Forum

Taipei. Taiwan (WS News Publisher) – Taoyuan City Government held the Sustainable City Main Forum on March 24th. Deputy speaker of the Legislative Yuan and chairman of UN Sustainable Development Goals Advisory Council of Legislative Yuan Tsai Chi-Chang, Secretary General of ICLEI Gino Van Begin, Secretary General of CityNet Vijay Jagannathan, Executive Director of IGES Yasuo Takahashi, Director of Sustainable Infrastructure Policy & Project Preparation at EBRD Matthew Jordan Tank, representatives of several countries in Taiwan and private sectors are invited to the Forum to share their experiences in promoting urban sustainable development through adopting green transition policy, based on the theme of Sustainable Recovery this year.

Cheng Wen-Tsan, the Mayor of Taoyuan City, said that The Sustainable City Forum will be an annual event and “Common good and Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability” are the sustainable development vision of Taoyuan. Based on Sustainable Development Goals, Taoyuan City published Voluntary Local Report of Taoyuan on 25th Sep 2020. Taoyuan is the third city of Taiwan to deliver VLR report and the first city invited by IGES to publish VLR.

aoyuan has overcome the pandemic setback and held the 2021 Sustainable City Forum on schedule at the end of March. It has received enthusiastic response since it began to organize. Representatives of the Secretary-General of four international organizations and honored guests from more than 20 countries participated in the forum, which is the largest in scale if compared to previous ones.

During the forum, Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan led Deputy Secretary General Chiu Junn-Ming, Director-General of Department of Environmental Protection of Taoyuan City, Lu Li-The, together with Director of French Office in Taipei, Jean-François Casabonne-Masonnave, Director General of the German Institute Taipei, Dr. Thomas Prinz, Head of Trade Section of European Economic and Trade Office, Dr. Thomas JÜRGENSEN, Acting Head of the Polish Office in Taipei, Bartosz RYŚ, Ambassador of Grenoble-Alpes Metropole, France, Pascal VIAUD and honored guests from public sectors, to share the experiences of energy governance and green transform of cities under the pandemic.

In addition, ECCT LCI Steering Committee MD Taiwan & VP, Asia Pacific Region STMicroelectronics Ltd., Giuseppe Izzo, Head of Sales Taiwan & ASEAN, TPU, Covestro (Taiwan) Ltd., Edy Chen, Research Manager of IGES Sudarmanto Budi Nugroho, Head of Digital Experience & Innovation KAUST, Mohamed Abdel-Aal and Director of Integrated Marketing & Sales for BIXI, Josephine Allan shared their practical experiences of eco-mobility and eco-logistics from private sector perspective through online or offline.

As the world’s first chair of Eco-Logistics community, Taoyuan City established 5 Demo Sites for Eco Logistics to leverage the resources from the logistics industry, including Daxi Business District, Shalun Green Warehousing Park, Chunghwa Post Logistics and Huaya Science and Technology Park, Qingpu Green Energy Logistics Cluster and Airport Cargo Terminals and Logistics Area. Those sites focus on low carbon transportation and local business engagement in order to build a low caron and sustainable center of Eco-Logistics in Taiwan.
